About the Role

As an Outreach Associate, you’ll be the friendly face families trust, working in Pittsburgh laundromats to start conversations, answer questions, and connect them to helpful services. You’ll use your people skills to build relationships and have a real impact in your community.

This role operates on a flexible shift model. You’ll claim available 4-hour shifts posted weekly in our scheduling system, and you must complete a minimum of 3 shifts (12 hours) per week. Work is available only Friday through Monday.

What You’ll Do

  • Connect with Families: Start warm, friendly conversations and build trust in laundromat settings.
     
  • Educate and Assist: Explain public benefit programs, screen for eligibility, and help families with applications in a simple, clear way.

  • A People-Person: You love connecting with others and have experience in outreach, customer service, or social work.
     
  • Empathetic & Respectful: You’re a strong communicator who connects with families from all walks of life.
     
  • Independent & Reliable: You’re comfortable working on your own, managing your own time, and following through on deliverables.
     
  • Adaptable: You’re at ease working in different locations and adjusting to new situations.
     
  • Tech-Friendly: You’re comfortable using apps and digital tools.

Must-Haves

  • Willingness to work in-person in laundromats (no laundry required!)
     
  • Reliable transportation to and between laundromat locations
     
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
     
  • Must work at least 3 shifts per week (12 hours minimum)
     
  • Weekend availability is required (Friday–Monday only)
     
  • Please note: Background checks may be conducted as part of the hiring process and/or at any time during employment.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Bilingual (especially in Spanish)
     
  • Familiarity with public benefits or social service programs
     

Contractor Terms

  • Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
     
  • Hourly Rate: $20 hour
     
  • Schedule: Contractors choose shifts from available 4-hour blocks posted in on our scheduling system (Friday–Monday only)
     
  • Minimum Commitment: 12 hours per week
     
  • Maximum: 32 hours per week
     
  • Contractors are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Laundromat. Reliable transportation is a requirement.
